At one month old our daughter Isabella was very sick. She suffered from multiple cardiac arrests that resulted in her being put on life support where machines acted as her heart, lungs and other vital organs. Our beautiful baby girl had such a lack of oxygen before going on life support that the medical team told us we would never get to take our daughter home.

 

We saw our tiny baby hooked up to every imaginable machine....without a heart beat of her own. Despite the almost certainty of there being no possible good outcome the medical team at the Royal Children's Hospital never gave up trying to save our Issy.

 

After a couple of days in ICU a tiny heart beat appeared.....not enough to do anything productive but a real heartbeat......after a few more days Issy's eyes opened......and weeks later after some incredible and high risk surgeries.....we were able to nervously hold our daughter again.

 

Issy now with a pacemaker has overcome the many challenges she faced when in hospital. She is a happy, thriving and resilient little girl who is celebrating her first birthday over Easter. 

 

The 'Run for the Kids' is a fantastic opportunity for our family and friends to get involved in raising money for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal. The time and resources spent on saving Issy's life and the lives of many other sick children is a cause worthy of raising money for.
