In May 2016, our beautiful ‘chocolate monster’ Georgia was rushed to the Royal Children’s Hospital for emergency neurosurgery to relieve pressure in her brain due to an abnormal accumulation of fluid in her head. Her condition (known as hydrocephalus) was caused by a tumour that was hindering the drainage of fluid from her brain. Fortunately, the operation was a success and for the next 8 months Georgia was able to enjoy life as a normal, happy 4 year old.
Just before Christmas 2017, during a routine MRI, the doctors at the RCH found that the tumour in Georgia’s brain had grown. We were deeply shocked as she had been very happy and healthy and had shown no symptoms of such a serious illness. Getting through Christmas and the holiday season was very challenging. We tried hard to celebrate with the kids and not think the worst and we were desperate to find out how we could help our little princess to overcome the illness that everyone fears – cancer. After much research and many visits to the RCH, Georgia is now having 12 months of chemotherapy to try to stop the growth of the tumour. At this stage, chemotherapy is deemed the best treatment due to the risks associated with surgery in that part of her brain. We hope and pray that it is successful.
Everyone at the RCH has been so helpful and kind – from the surgeons and oncology staff, psychologists, nurses, therapists, starlight team.....even the guys and girls who work in the cafes and ice cream shop who are always so bright and cheerful with nothing ever being too much trouble. They are all fabulous and have helped us to ensure that Georgia is well looked after and continues life as a happy 4 year old.
We thank all of our family and friends for their continued thoughts and prayers for Georgia as she continues on this journey. We are very grateful for everyone’s donation to support the RCH and the wonderful staff to continue to be amazing looking after kids like Georgia.
Love,
Grant, Jacinta, Samuel and Georgia
